Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack made him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
